Now, many of you may be wondering why I would take the time to mention this, Others might be saying Hoobastank who? Still others might be saying Godbless you.

Well my whole point here is to take a moment to comment on culture today. I think that this particular band and their album “Reason” are getting right at the heart of how culture is trying to position itself in the way it percieves, understands and reacts to the world around us and life in general.

“but i’m not ever going to know if i’m right or wrong
cause were all going in the same direction
and i’m not sure which way to go
cause were all going in the same direction?”

This is the chorus off of the first track titled “Same Direction”. It also is the big question that culture today is asking itself. “How can there only be one way”? “How can there only be one truth”?
Deep inside of me I want to say, “Because it makes no sence if there is more than one truth. By definition, there can only be one truth, but lets be honest with ourselves. ALL of us have struggled though this question, and most of us still do. I mean, when I look at the cool people around me who hold to beliefe systems different than what Christ teaches, I pray to God and wish that there could be many ways to him, but . . . I just cannot hold to that. . . . .
So, what is the appropriate responce to this question? Will we let it go unasnwered, keep a snooty attitude and be unwilling to dialog about it?
Well, I will not. And instead of just counting out the people like me who have the courage to ask this question, I want to get to know them. I want to talk about THE QUESTION, and hopefull in the process they will come to know the only one that can answer the question. And if not, at least, I will make a pretty cool friend in the process.

If you were to listen to the rest of the album you would begin to hear a voice. It is the voice of a people that are calling out for answers. They are calling out for the reason; the reason we are here, the reason we live, the reason for life.

I recommend you take a listen and learn a little about who is wondering through the halls of our schools and universities this fall, and what those young profesionsals working in the desks near you are thinking about. Perhaps you will learn a little about yourself.

If you are not sure what to think about this post or find yourself asking the question just like I do, Drop me a line. I love to dialog about this stuff.

till next time,
derrak

Great blog… I have that song on my iPod (Same Direction) and I listen to it from time to time just to remind myself of the many people out there who cannot grasp that there is only one True path to God…
