life really does come at you fast

Monday, December 19th, 2005

Although this is not a picture of my 1997 nissan sentra, it is pretty much what mine looks like now!

this past friday, about three blocks from where i am living, on my way to work I made a big mistake. The police called it “failing to yield to oncoming traffic.” I think of it more like a dumb mistake.

I admit, it was my fault. However the only explenation I have is that I am not perfect, and am prone to make mistales. (in more ways that just driving) One thing is for sure, I am so gratful for my life and that no one ws hurt. ( including the very gracious man who owned the seemingly brand new Honda acoord that i hit.)

In the spirit of lists and bullit point outlines, here is my list of lessons learned. (OK, maybe some are lessons i should have remembered)

1. I have an amazing gracious and loving wife.

2. LIfe really is fast. I mean things can change in an instant. I was thinking that as I was sitting at my desk working only 2 hours later. It seemed so sureal then.

3. Money isn’t everything. (possesions are meaningless) And, I still have more money than the average family in this world.

4. Life is funny, as long as you are willing to not take yourself too seriously and laugh.
—————————

Well, that is all for now. I think more will come in the coming days.
I hope things are well out there in the blogger world. Drive safe! : )

ONE MORE THING: I recently won a contest on my friend josh smith’s blog. check it out by clicking here.

Enter the 'Like Vegas with Jo-Jo's' T-shirt contest at Gitgan.com/blog

One of my friends josh smith is having, what has become, an annual contest on his blog. It is really quite amusing. This year the winner will recieve a free t-shirt that pays tribute to the city of Akron, and was designed by the man himself. I highly recommend the shirt. I have one myself and it is not only one if the most stylin shirts I own, but it is also one of the most comfortable.

So, if you have nothing to do in the next 5 minutes, click on the graphic above and give it a shot. What have ya got to loose?

This is going to be a bit of an all purpose post. Some catching up and some thoughts rolling around in my head. So…….. here we go~!

Things have been shaping up here in Detroit land. But first this fun pic is from the Ostovic family reunion in Iowa this past November. Unfortunately I was not able to go, but Melanie and Jack did. It was Jack’s first plane ride! I was thinking about how my first plane ride was not until I was 17. He has me beat by 16 1/2 years. Boy have times changed.

Anyway, I hear it was a good time. I was unable to go because I was in Lake Ann, MI for our Jr. High fall retreat.
While up there I snuck into Traverse City one day. That is a really nice town. I recommend a visit if you are in the area. It is in the Northwest part of the state right on Lake Michigan.

Things with our transition are still going well. We are still hoping for our house to sell, but are pretty confident that will not happen till after Christmas. Once it does happen we will be able to find our own place here, which will be nice. Not that we hate living with Jana, but it just will be nice to have our own place once again. Actully we are throwing around the idea of buying a duplex with our friends Steve and Shauna Conzaman. We will see what happens. Most likely we will look in Macomb county which is the county just east of Oakland County. (where we are now) Taxes and houses are much more affordable there.

Lessons from moving . . .

1. Relationships are the most important part of life. The phrase “you don’t know what you have till you don’t have it” applies here. Althoough I do not regret our move one moment I really miss the friends that I used to live life with every day and week. I am reminded that it takes time to build relationships, and it is hard to be patient with that process when you move.

2. I hope I always will be willing to make the tough decisions, take risks, and follow the passions of my heart. This move was one from a comfortable predictable place to one of unpredictability and risk. I am so glad Melanie and I chose to take the step of faith. I know we will be better for it. AND, ultimately we want God to define our hearts and lives. I hope we are always willing to go where God leads us, even if it is risky, uncomfortable, and foolish to evereyone else.

3. That reminds me of another growing passion of mine, and that is to plant a church that is connecting with my generation. I dont know why but this dream keeps growing inside of me. The other part of this dream is that I want this church to be in the Akron area. God has put in me and Melanie an unexplainable growing affection for the Akron area. I can’t explain it. It is just there, and we hope to return some day and plant a church that is connecting with people like us. People who most of the churches in Akron are not connecting with.

Anyway, I told you this was going to be a crazy stream of concienceness type of post. I hope all of you bloggers out there are doing well.
